I've always admired Edgar Degas' horses. His observations of the field circling at the barrier at Longchamp on the edge of Paris in the 1870s, amateur jockeys in colourful silks, spectators in top hats, frills and carriages, have long been among my favourite paintings.

Optus' government relations chief, Maha Krishnapillai, says that “Telstra's upgrade was a poor second choice, as it was a "shared network", and therefore slowed down as the number of users increased” (The Age, Wednesday 11 March 2009).
Perhaps if Optus understood more about network engineering they would make better use of their own cable (HFC) network. Read more...
