John McInerney, CIO

Telstra Chief Executive Officer Sol Trujillo announced John McInerney has been promoted to Chief Information Officer and Group Managing Director after playing crucial roles in the company’s IT Transformation for the past three years.

Mr McInerney will take over responsibility for Telstra’s information systems from Tom Lamming, the company’s SVP, Transformation. Mr Lamming will retain oversight of Telstra’s IT transformation, announced in November, 2005. Mr McInerney will continue to report to Mr Lamming, while Mr Lamming will still report to Greg Winn, Telstra’s Chief Operations Officer.

John McInerney announced as CIO on Investor Day“For a long time, Tom Lamming has been doing double duty at Telstra as the key figure in our dramatic IT Transformation while also acting as CIO,” Mr Trujillo said.

“John McInerney is an immensely capable executive who has been integrally involved throughout Telstra’s Transformation program. He has led many of the world-leading IT changes we have made at Telstra and his promotion is another sign of the success Telstra has had developing great leaders within the organisation.”

Mr McInerney said delivering a simplified IT environment at Telstra was a unique opportunity to help create a world-class, performance-oriented organisation as part of solutions delivery.

“The Telstra team has achieved amazing results as we have worked to dramatically transform our company over the past three years,” Mr McInerney said. “I’m proud to be part of this team and very pleased to now lead the implementation of many of the IT solutions we have worked so hard to put in place.”

Mr McInerney joined Telstra five years ago and had been Executive Director, Information Technology since mid-2007. In that role he drove the delivery of Telstra’s IT Transformation program.

Mr McInerney began his career at Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC), holding positions across a range of disciplines over a period of five years. He then joined the Datum Group, an Australian-based IT consultancy and systems integrator to head up their business intelligence practice. In nine years, he successfully led several divisions in the Datum Group and spent his final two years as Chief Executive Officer.

The Transformation program is part of Telstra’s overall business, network and technology transformation program launched by Mr Trujillo in November, 2005. The IT portion of Telstra’s Transformation program represents one of the largest programs of its kind in the world. It delivers common business processes, capabilities and training, supported by internationally proven solutions across Telstra’s Customer Care and Billing, and Operating Support Systems.
