Telstra: No foundation in Minister's claim
Telstra said today it was willing to take a fair cop if it is warranted but the claim by the Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner (Australian IT, 12 August) that the National Broadband Network (NBN) has been delayed by “Telstra’s hold-up over its infrastructure information” (www.australianit.news.com.au) is totally without foundation.
"Telstra has complied voluntarily and on time with every single Government request for network information for the NBN. Whether the same can be said for the dozen other carriers from which the Government is also seeking this network information is something that Mr Tanner might like to investigate." Telstra’s Director Government Relations David Quilty said.
Telstra said it has been trying to build the NBN since August 2005 and rejects any claims it is responsible for the current “hold-up”.
Mr Quilty said,
“with Australia’s economy forfeiting upwards of $200 million every month that the NBN is delayed, surely it is time to stop the endless finger-pointing and get this critical ‘nation building’ project underway.”
