It sounds like there is a return to sanity” were Public Policy & Communications GMD, Dr Phil Burgess’s first words after hearing the decision to terminate the Broadband Connect $1 billion grant to the SingTel Optus and Elders joint venture, OPEL.

Appearing on CNBC Asia today to discuss the Government's OPEL decision, Dr Phil talked about Telstra’s approach which is “managing against what the customer wants, not against politics.”

“When the government gives a free kick to one of our competitors, and then takes that free kick away and makes them compete like everybody else, we think that is a good thing for the consumer,” Dr Phil said.
