Justin Milne - Cyber Safety Tips launch at TLife

There’s been a lot of public discussion in recent years about cyber safety, but just as kids connect with the internet, parents need to connect with their children to help ensure their safety and wellbeing, as our nowwearetalking correspondent found out today at Sydney’s T[life] store.

Telstra and BigPond today were joined by one of the world’s leading experts on e-learning and a leading advocate for child cyber safety, Dr Martyn Wild, who shared simple steps parents can take to make the internet a safe and enjoyable place for their family.

Free seminars:

Dr Wild will conduct a series of free seminars in Sydney over the next couple of weeks. Register at T[life] workshops & events (www.telstra.com.au).

Thursday 5 June: 12:15pm, 1.00pm, 5:15pm, 6.00pm
Tuesday 10 June:
12:15pm, 1.00pm
Wednesday 11 June: 12:15pm, 1.00pm

Dr Wild outlined new research showing that while cyber-bullying is a phenomenon which our children are increasingly aware of and experiencing, parents aren’t necessarily being informed about it. There also appears to be an increasing gap between what parents think their children are doing online and what they actually do.

But rather than switch off, parents are being urged to switch on as part of a shared responsibility to ensure we get all the benefits the internet has to offer.
