Regulation in Australia is like “liposuction”, sucking the value out of broadband investment, Telstra's Dr Tony Warren told delegates today at the Broadband Australia 2008 conference. He said that old ways of regulating telecommunications, ports, electricity and gas were failing to attract private investment.

Telstra today announced a one-on-one personal mentor service for its customers in Melbourne, that will see experts come to the customer at their convenience, to help them understand and use their mobiles. Telstra Business Executive Director, Ms Cathy Aston, said the service would be particularly popular with timepoor, business people.

David Moffatt, Telstra’s Group Managing Director of Consumer Marketing and Channels, will join Olympic legend Mike McKay, and other Melbourne business and professional leaders, on a charity bike ride from Shanghai to Beijing. The goal of the ride is to build primary schools and train teachers in Hebei and earthquake affected Sichuan Province, through Australian Volunteers International and Project Hope.
