Broadcasting is flowing beyond the television set into the virtual world. Lumacast (www.lumacast.com) - Sydney’s first independent video podcast network – is at the forefront of this wave.
Video podcasts provide online delivery of video clips on demand. Lumacast has harnessed this technology to create a new media experience with a local edge.
Adam Teale and Liam Neville are the brains behind Lumacast. Along with a team of devoted contributors, the guys set out to create a space for original and diverse video content. The Lumacast stable includes chat shows, comedy, a “choose-your own adventure” style drama, magic and animation slots.
“We just wanted to see if we could pull it off. We noticed podcasting really kicking along, and were interested in giving it a go.” says Adam. “And because the clips are small, it’s fast to for people to download.”
The project has been running for nearly two months, bringing audiences 10 weekly shows. Keen to showcase content in all forms, Lumacast welcomes contributions - be it a one-off episode or a longer running series.
“We offer a guest podcast spot if someone has a one-off show, “explains Adam, “If they’ve got a show that can run for a couple of weeks, then we can give them a more permanent spot. We wanted to provide a space to get work out there – and make it easier than say trying to pitch to a network.”
The Lumanation forums are another important branch of the network. Here you’ll find a space to chat and share ideas, with an emphasis on keeping the viewer in control.
“The idea was to enable community input into the whole thing. So that viewers could get onto the guys that made the show and ask ‘why did you do it this way?’” says Adam.
So whether you want to show off your own talents, or watch others show off theirs, check out Lumacast – an independent broadcasting alternative that is changing the way video entertainment is created, distributed and viewed.
