In the eyes of Alan Kohler, 12 months ago Australia’s investment industry was a closed shop. Critical of the industry's self-serving nature, the veteran financial journalist set out to redress the balance by launching the Eureka Report.

The Eureka Report (www.eurekareport.com.au) is an online information and commentary service for investors that gives ordinary people the tools to manage their own savings.

Celebrating its first birthday in June 2006, Eureka has revived financial journalism with the help of technology.

"I am proud to say that we are now well established and will definitely stick around." Kohler says.

"We have maintained our independence and integrity while keeping our subscribers informed for 12 months on all investment matters."

With a mix of free and subscription content, Eureka offers news, views and analysis on the latest market happenings. Subscribers receive a weekly investment wrap delivered direct to their email inbox in three instalments.

The site also dissects tip-sheet recommendations, has an online bookstore, a corporate calendar and a regular podcast service.

Three times a week the team of Alan Kohler, Michael Pascoe and Robert Gottliebsen interview top Australian executives for the latest market insights. Podcast subscribers can download the interviews and view them at their convenience – effectively delivering a business TV show “on-demand”.

And those confused by the recent Federal Budget’s superannuation reforms can have their questions answered in Eureka’s Super Forum  (www.eurekareport.com.au). Moderated by a panel of experts, this virtual classroom helps people iron out their superannuation anxieties and take control of their financial future.

Using these new media tools and integrated technologies Kohler and his team are able to deliver analysis and advice that is timely, accessible and cost-effective: a virtual “roadmap for safe, commission-free investing”.

"Feedback has told us subscribers want direct answers on what to do, rather than what not to do." Kohler says. "So we’re going to be giving them the tools to control their investments and keep what is rightfully theirs."

Eureka! indeed.
