3G makes life easy for builders and increases productivity

Over the last twenty years, Greg Tarrant and Shane Sullivan have worked out a formula for just about every calculation a builder could ever need - from the pitch of a roof to a plan for a staircase, and everything in between.

These automatic calculations for builder’s measurements have long been available on their website Blocklayer.com (www.blocklayer.com). But new technology means they can now be accessed and delivered via 3G mobile phones – and builders love it!

Greg said when 3G technology rolled out he adapted the software on the website, creating a new site which mobile phones can access: Blocklayer.com (blocklayer.mobi).

“Builder’s don’t even have to turn on a computer to get accurate calculations on a building site now.

“They just access our mobile website on their 3G phones, enter their required measurements for whatever calculation they need and hit send.

“In no time flat the exact dimensions they need are displayed on their 3G handsets. They don’t even have to climb down off the roof or scaffold if they don’t want to,” says Greg.

3G technology has been a boost for Greg and the building industry.

“3G has definitely increased traffic on my website, there are many more builders using this facility now, because they’ve all got mobile phones and it’s just incredibly convenient for them.”

“Its enabled a massive increase in productivity levels in the building industry, as instant access to building calculations saves so much time,” says Greg.

So what details do builders actually enter into their mobile phone?

To work out the dimensions of a staircase the mathematical formulas are quite complex. But using blocklayer, a builder simply enters the height of the stairs, the desired height of the risers and how much head room is needed and presto! – the full plan is sent to their phone screen.

Try the builder’s calculations for yourself at Blocklayer.com (blocklayer.mobi).
