Next G™ unleashes a new breed of news hound

Ahron Young, mobile journalist from Sky News

As a Sky News mobile journalist, I use a camera and a laptop to capture news as it breaks.

At Sky every bulletin is important, we need to get the pictures up and get things on air as soon as possible.

Before Next G I could get the story onto my laptop, but the missing link was getting the vision from my laptop to the studio. I would have to leave the news scene and travel to a place where I could find a broadband connection to the internet.

Now, I slot in the Next G data card into the laptop, it locates a signal, and I can upload my vision. If it’s a big news story and it’s important it will go out live.

I’m dealing with files that are about 300 meg; it is unbelievable that it’s now possible to upload files that size. To be somewhere like the bushfires, and be able to upload a file from there to the nearest suburb or to a major city - Next G is really incredible.

About the G whiz stories

The G whiz stories here are based on Telstra Next G™ customers’ own experiences of coverage on the Next G™ network. Like any other mobile network, Next G™ mobile telephone coverage depends in part on where you are, what particular handset you are using and whether your handset has an external antenna attached.
